Live, Laugh, Lungs – A Breath of Fresh Air for Malaysian Families

Last weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the launch of the Live, Laugh, Lungs Campaign officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, our Minister of Health Malaysia, at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. The event was held in conjunction with the National World Lung Day celebration – and it was an eye-opener for me as a mom who cares deeply about my family’s health. 💨🫁

💙 Why Lung Health Matters

We often take our lungs for granted, but did you know that lung diseases are still one of the biggest health burdens in Malaysia? This includes lung cancer, asthma, COPD, and infections like TB, pneumonia, COVID-19, and influenza.

Some eye-opening facts:

📌 In 2024, there were over 26,000 new tuberculosis cases

📌 Almost 500,000 children aged 6–17 are living with asthma

📌 More than 1.4 million adults have been diagnosed with asthma

📌Lung cancer is now the 2nd most common cancer in men and 3rd in women in Malaysia

These numbers really hit me as a parent. Keeping our children’s lungs healthy needs to be a national priority – and I’m glad this campaign is taking real steps forward. 💪

The programme was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health, who also took the opportunity to walk around 1 Utama to witness the educational activities aimed at raising public awareness on the importance of lung health

🎉 What’s Happening at the Campaign

The Live, Laugh, Lungs Campaign, organized by the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) in collaboration with Kenvue Malaysia, Watsons Malaysia, and supported by the Ministry of Health, is happening from 3–7 September 2025 at 1 Utama.

Here’s what you and your family can enjoy:

🩺 Lung Health Zone – FREE lung health screenings using AI-powered mobile X-rays, plus quit smoking services.

👨‍👩‍👧 Interactive Education Zone – Fun activities await the whole family, including the Knock Out Smoking game, the Laughing Machine, and the Public Pledge Wall. Collect a card, complete the activities, and earn stamps to redeem an exclusive goodie bag!

It was such a fun and meaningful experience — kids and adults loved it, and we all learned a lot!

Let’s laugh our lungs out for stronger, healthier lungs

🚭 Helping Smokers Quit – With Support That Works

One of the key highlights of the campaign is raising awareness about Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). Research shows that 77% of smokers are more likely to quit if NRT is made more accessible — and now, it is! 🎉

Thanks to Watsons Malaysia, NRT products will be available over the counter (OTC) at all their outlets nationwide by end of October 2025. This makes it so much easier for people to get the help they need to quit smoking — a huge step towards healthier families and communities.

This campaign aligns with the global theme for World Lung Day: "Healthy Lungs, Healthy Lives", and supports Malaysia’s ongoing National Lung Health Initiative.
