Chinese New Year Comedy with Old Master Q at Resorts World Genting

When I was a small little girl, I love to read comic book characters and one of my favourite was Old Master Q which was also fondly known as "Lau Foo Che". He and his friends come to life to usher in the Year of Monkey at Resorts World Genting. Me and my Little Angel were invited to meet him and Mr Big Potato at First World Plaza.

Expect a big dose of nostalgia and lots of laughter and humour meeting the quirky Old Master Q and Mr Big Potato from 9th January and later joined by his friends at the "Chinese New Year Comedy with Master Q" to be held at the resort from 6 February to 29 February.

A newstand staple for more than 50 years, Old Master Q remains highly popular in Hong Kong and among the Chinese diaspora. The comic book character provides valuable insights into Chinese society, culture and technological developments and ensuring Master Q stays current and relevant is Professor Joseph Wong, one of Hong Kong's most influential comic artists.

Old Master Q typically runs into bad luck in life but never loses his humour and wit. He is always joined by the kind-hearted yet humorous Mr Big Potato, the straitlaced Mr Chin and the lovely Ms Chan. There is also Mr Zhao who competes with Old Master Q in courting Ms Chan.

"Despite all the changes, Old Master Q still has the same humour and same cheeky face and attitude. And after all these years, he is still single," Professor Joseph says, adding that the character remains "casual and uncomplicated" and that "the formula hasn't changed in half a century.
Old Master Q and his cool gang will have their live show at the Times Square Stage. The shows will be held from 12pm to 12.30pm, 5.30pm to 6pm and 8pm to 8.30pm from 6th to 29th February.

Old Master Q, Big Potato, Mr Chin, Ms Chan and Mr Zhao will all feature in the show that is as educational as it is entertaining. Children and adults alike will be reminded about the dos and don'ts of Chinese New Year and other traditional aspects like the colour of fortune for the festival and various lion dance instruments.

Cantopop music by Sam Hui will fill the air with a distinctive 60s-70s feel, the era when Old Master Q first began. Also scheduled to make an appearance is Choy Sun Yeh in all his resplendence and lion dance.

There is also a meet-and-greet session where you can take pictures with Old Master Q and his friends.

Old Master Q always reminds me of my childhood comics that never failed to entertain me when I was in stress or sad with its humour. After so many years, it is indeed a great time for me to be with him again at First World Plaza. Taking lots of photos with him and his friends, mades me feel young again.

An art exhibition is also currently on till 31st March 2016, featuring the artworks by 25 talented artists from Sweden, Indonesia, Qatar, Japan, Philipines and Malaysia.

Themed "Everyone Can Paint, Paint from Our Heart", the exhibition is first of its kind held at the world's largest hotel i.e. First World Hotel since it earned the Guinness World Records title last year with its record of 7,351 rooms.

Mr Edward Holloway, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations said, "The new Tower 3 with its open space and modern interior is the perfect place to showcase works of arts. This exhibition hopes to promote these young artists and at the same time promote art amongst visitors who are staying at the hotel.

If you want to know more on the promotions and events going on at Resort World Genting, feel free to log on to their website at http://www.rwgenting.com/ or call them at 03-27181118.

I was really impressed by the arts done by the young children. The talented one-year-old named Zoey Ng is the best embodiment of how "everyone can paint from the heart." The exhibition bring people together with the message of peace, love and harmony. Come and experience everything here at First World Hotel during this Chinese New Year Celebration and bring home some great memories and the meanings of life.
